This nature-inspired workplace was designed to bring a young and growing team back together. A 13,000 ft² CAT B fit-out for ESP Utilities, it was delivered at pace against a live and evolving base build.

Brief

Shaped around the team

ESP Utilities’ team members are largely young, collaborative and used to flexibility. Post-pandemic, ESP needed a space that would make them genuinely want to be there. The brief called for natural materials, residential warmth and a layout designed around how people actually want to work.

Approach

Creating a flexible framework

We designed the workplace to evolve alongside the business. By building in a flexible foundation from the outset, we created a space that adapts to a range of work settings and supports future growth and changing ways of working.

Bringing the workplace together

As we introduced furniture and key workplace settings, the space began to take shape. We planned each area around a specific activity, balancing settings for individual focus and team-based work.

Supporting choice and collaboration

The finished workplace gives people a variety of settings to work, meet and connect through the day. A mix of collaborative spaces, breakout areas and focused work zones creates a more engaging, productive experience for everyone.

Statement entry and breakout

The building entrance flows into a large breakout space, creating an immediate and welcoming first impression. It feels social, open and energising from the minute you walk through the door and sets the tone for the rest of the scheme.

High-end executive suite

A premium executive suite gives senior leadership a polished, well-specified environment for client meetings and private work. A considered counterpoint to the open, social character of the wider floor.

Café-style kitchen and social hub

With a café feel, the kitchen is the anchor for office social life. A natural gathering point that brings teams together informally throughout the day.

Zoned for every way of working

Acoustic meeting rooms, quiet focus areas and collaborative zones sit alongside one another across the floor plate. And give the team lots of choice to work in ways that suit them best, whatever the task.

Details

Natural oak, soft neutrals and biophilia give the space its warmth and character. A residential-inspired palette that makes 13,000 sq ft of office feel like somewhere you'd choose to be, rather than somewhere you have to be.
