Finding the right home for Logistics UK

‍

For Logistics UK, a new Tunbridge Wells HQ was an opportunity to rethink how its people come together. From property search through to delivery, we created a brighter, better-connected workplace that’s already driving a significant increase in office attendance.

‍

‍

Brief

After around three decades in its Tunbridge Wells office, Logistics UK needed a workplace better suited to how the business wanted to work. Teams were spread across disconnected spaces, with limited opportunities to meet and collaborate. But finding the right alternative came with its own challenges, from ample parking and dedicated training facilities to creating a workplace that could bring people together. So before we designed anything, we helped answer the bigger question: stay or go?

Approach

Construction Image 1

Finding the right fit

We started by understanding exactly what Logistics UK really needed. That meant exploring what could be achieved in its existing building, testing other potential sites in Tunbridge Wells, and eventually planning the building that would become its new home. Working through three different options helped refine the brief at every stage. By the time the right building came along, we knew the teams, their requirements and the pain points we needed to solve.

Construction Image 2

Making every metre work harder

The chosen building presented its own spatial challenges. Existing lobbies around the central staircase restricted movement and took up valuable floor space. By reconfiguring key areas, we created more usable space for desks and better circulation. Elsewhere, we made better use of what was already there, retaining and refreshing existing elements wherever possible rather than replacing them.

Construction Image 3

Six floors, better connected

With teams spread across six floors, creating connection was key. Each floor was designed around individual team needs, with shared spaces encouraging people to move, meet and come together. Collaborative areas, breakout spaces, a gym and boardroom give people more choice in where and how they work.

Features Image 1

A clear path to training

Training was a major part of the brief, so we gave it a journey of its own. A new secondary entrance takes training candidates into a dedicated reception before leading directly to the lower-ground training facility. It keeps visitor movement separate from the day-to-day workplace while making the experience clear and welcoming from arrival.

‍

Features Image 2

A reason to come together

The previous office offered little beyond desks and individual offices. The new HQ changes that. Breakout areas, collaborative settings, a gym and shared spaces give teams places to meet, recharge and spend time together. Helping turn the office into somewhere people actively want to use.

‍

‍

Features Image 3

Designed around the brand

As a building Logistics UK was investing in for the long term, it needed to feel unmistakably theirs. Brand reds and blues are woven through the workplace. Across all three entrances, consistent branding creates a clear sense of Logistics UK from the moment you arrive.

‍

‍

‍

Features Image 4

Every arrival considered

Staff, visitors and training candidates all use the building differently. Separate entrances and carefully planned routes make those journeys intuitive, while parking improvements, new barriers, access control and EV charging help the building work operationally as well as aesthetically.

‍

Details

Brand reds and blues are balanced with warmer tones, natural textures and softer finishes to create a workplace that feels distinctly Logistics UK without feeling overly corporate. From collaborative spaces to social areas, materials, planting and considered detailing bring warmth and character throughout.

When Amova chose to relocate to 36 Queen Street, the space already had a recently completed Cat A+ fit out. Our challenge was to adapt the existing workplace to suit their people and operational needs, while retaining the character, design features and finishes that had attracted them to the building in the first place.
