Vine Street Incubator
8,000 ft²
A buzzing basement workspace
This 8,000 ft² fit-out was in a challenging basement environment. We transformed it into a fresh, energetic incubator space for young entrepreneurs, full of light, life and room to think.
Brief
Going underground for creativity
The brief was to create a fresh, inspiring space for young entrepreneurs to start up and grow their businesses. We needed to do this in a basement with low ceilings, limited natural daylight and a challenging architectural shell.
Approach

Creating a flexible foundation
We designed the incubator to support a diverse community of students, entrepreneurs and innovators. A flexible framework from the outset let the space adapt to everything from individual project work to collaborative events and workshops.

Designing for collaboration
We carefully integrated shared amenity spaces to encourage interaction and the exchange of ideas. By creating welcoming destinations throughout the space, the design supports connection, creativity and a stronger sense of community.

Supporting innovation
The completed environment provides a range of settings that enable learning, collaboration and experimentation. By combining technology, flexible workspaces and social areas, the incubator becomes a place where new ideas can be developed, shared and brought to life.
Features

Making light of it
In the absence of natural light, we made a feature of the lighting. Brightening every corner of the space to make the basement feel open, welcoming and fully charged.

Green for growth
Planting is also woven through the space to bring in a sense of the outdoors. It softens surfaces, improves air quality and reinforces the fresh, creative atmosphere the incubator was designed to cultivate.

Getting into the flow
Bold curves on AV walls, ceilings and flooring break up the shell’s straight lines. Creating a sense of movement and flow that makes the basement feel dynamic rather than confined.

Furniture that’s ready to flex
Flexible furniture supports the variety of ways young businesses may want to use the space. From focused solo work to impromptu collaboration, pitches, workshops and everything in between.
Details
Fresh teal and vibrant orange run through the scheme. Set against whitewashed timber flooring and white-painted brick, the space feels bright, airy and full of life.
