A new approach for an iconic bank

This was our third major project with Berenberg, one of the world’s oldest investment banks. The 24,000 ft² seventh-floor fit-out consolidated teams from two floors in the same building into one of the largest investment research floors in the City. And created a landmark multi-use hub at its heart.

Brief

From traditional to progressive

In the wake of the pandemic, Berenberg needed to move decisively from the traditional corporate model to give colleagues genuine choice and flexibility for how they work. The new floor would house teams relocating from the fourth and fifth floors, and the brief called for variety, adaptability and a clear step change in how the space felt.

Approach

Rethinking the workplace

The project began with a clear ambition: to move beyond the traditional office. By understanding how people wanted to work, we developed a strategy built around flexibility, collaboration and choice.

Building the foundations

The new vision called for a significant upgrade to the building's infrastructure. We coordinated carefully through construction, so the space could support enhanced technology, improved services and a more adaptable workplace.

Supporting new ways of working

The finished design offers a variety of settings for both focused work and collaboration. Hospitality-inspired spaces, integrated technology and a greater choice of work settings create an environment that encourages people to connect, engage and perform at their best.

The hub

The hub is the floor’s defining feature that brings people together. A multi-use social and work space, it’s open to all colleagues. And has the adaptability to shift between breakout sessions, focus work, informal meetings and big gatherings without missing a beat.

Event-ready furniture

The modular furniture we selected can be reconfigured quickly to suit whatever the space needs to accommodate. From an individual catching up on focused work to a large-scale evening event, the floor adapts easily without needing a full reset.

Video conferencing rooms

Dedicated one-and-two-person video conferencing rooms give colleagues the privacy and technology to stay connected to clients and counterparts globally. Without compromising the wider floor’s open, collaborative atmosphere.

CAT-7 infrastructure throughout

CAT-7 data cabling across the full 24,000 sq ft ensures Berenberg has the infrastructure to support state-of-the-art AV and connectivity. Keeping the team ahead of the curve and in close contact with colleagues worldwide.

A step away from traditional corporate blue, this scheme features colour, texture and biophilia throughout. Giving one of the City's oldest investment banks a floor that feels fresh and progressive.
