The Challenge
Sympathetic design to preserve heritage and elevate prestige.
William Grant & Sons approached us with a clear vision: to complete a ground floor fitout within their four-storey building in Richmond that aligned seamlessly with their existing high-end workspace. The challenge lay in respecting the legacy and visual identity already established across the upper floors, while subtly elevating the ground floor into a refined client-facing environment. We also had to navigate existing mechanical services and replicate intricate historical features, requiring both precision and sensitivity.
Our Approach
Listening carefully, planning thoroughly, delivering beautifully.
From the outset, it was clear that this wasn’t a blank canvas, it was a continuation of a story. The upper floors had already set a tone of quality and heritage, so our job was to not only match that standard but bring something extra to the table.
We began by investing time in understanding the nuances of the existing fitout. What made it special? Where were the opportunities to gently evolve the space for a more public-facing use? Through detailed site surveys and validations, we were able to map out the constraints, from mechanical systems already in place to the original detailing that needed to be preserved.
But this project wasn’t just about technical compatibility. It was about interpretation. Through open and regular dialogue with the William Grant & Sons team, we built trust and clarity around design decisions. This collaborative dynamic allowed us to navigate inevitable constraints while ensuring that the design intent always stayed on course.
The Solution
Inspired by the craft, tailored to the brand, built for connection.
The final design drew inspiration directly from the world of spirits, from the copper warmth of stills to the rich, layered tones of ageing whisky barrels. These elements found their way into material choices, textures and joinery details, giving the space a depth and character that felt both authentic and elevated.
We delivered a full CAT B fitout. Partitions, flooring, decorations, M&E, and joinery, all executed with precision over a 10-week programme. The result was more than just a polished interior. It is a space that welcomes clients with the same care and craft that goes into every William Grant & Sons brand bottle.
By anchoring the design in the brand’s story, the space became more than functional, it became expressive. A refined environment that not only mirrored the rest of the building but gently raised the bar for how the company presents itself to its clients.
The Outcome
An elevated ground floor that enhances every client interaction.
For William Grant & Sons, the finished space hit exactly the right note. It’s consistent with their wider office environment, yet distinctive in its purpose; designed specifically to host, welcome and impress.
Now, when clients walk through the doors of The Old Court House, they enter a space that reflects the heritage, quality and international status of the brand. It doesn’t just look the part, it feels it. And in doing so, it strengthens the impression William Grant & Sons leaves on every visitor.
