The Challenge
Creating a shared home while preserving clear identities.
Robert Half and Protiviti had spent a decade on Level 10 of The Shard, yet their evolving needs meant the space no longer supported the way they worked. Robert Half in particular required a significant shift toward hybrid working, with a reduced desk count and a wider range of agile settings. Protiviti had recently refreshed their existing workspace, so the priority for their team was to replicate the qualities they valued within a new footprint.
Both businesses wanted to move to Level 9 and operate more closely together, something their previous layout had never fully enabled. The floorplate was smaller which increased the challenge. Each business needed its own branded environment with its own settings and workflow, supported by a suite of shared spaces that would genuinely bring the two organisations together.
Our Approach
Balancing distinct requirements through collaborative design.
We worked closely with both teams from the earliest stages. A structured series of workshops brought every stakeholder into the process, ensuring the design intent reflected the needs and ambitions of both organisations.
Careful planning was essential. The reduced floor area meant every square foot needed to work hard. We ensured that interconnectivity between the two companies guided every decision from adjacencies through to the type and location of shared settings.
Each business retained its own character. Robert Half’s area was developed in line with their EMEA Design Guide, with a more agile and candidate focussed environment that supported hybrid work. Protiviti’s space incorporated their specific brand colours and established identity, closely reflecting what already worked well for them on Level 10.
In the centre of the floorplate, we created a neutral shared zone. This included a social space, flexible training rooms, support meeting rooms and a welcoming meet and greet area designed to encourage interaction across both businesses.
The Solution
Delivering a unified workplace shaped by brand and functionality.
The final scheme brings Robert Half and Protiviti together on one floor while giving each business purpose built spaces that directly support their ways of working.
Robert Half now operate within a more condensed and collaborative workspace that enables agile working. A reduced desk count is supported by a richer variety of settings including three person project rooms with full VC capabilities and dedicated breakout areas that encourage movement and interaction.
Protiviti benefit from a familiar set of spaces tailored to their established workflow. Their successful collaboration zone has been recreated and improved with additional bookable project rooms to provide greater flexibility.
The shared spaces sit seamlessly between the two businesses, designed in a neutral palette with carefully coordinated tones drawn from both brands. These environments offer room for formal meetings, informal catch ups and larger events, shaping a central hub where both companies can work together naturally.
Scope included a fully coordinated ceiling design, acoustician led criteria for walls and ceilings, bespoke joinery such as the reception desk and teapoint, a flexible folding wall system for the training and social spaces, full mechanical and electrical works and a blend of new and repurposed furniture for both businesses.
The Outcome
A contemporary and collaborative workplace that supports growth
The relocation has given both organisations a more efficient and future ready home. Robert Half now benefit from a workspace that supports hybrid working, improves the candidate experience and offers a wider variety of meeting and collaboration settings.
Protiviti gain a high quality environment that mirrors the success of their previous space with new project rooms to support evolving team needs.
For both businesses the most significant achievement is the creation of a shared central hub that finally enables genuine collaboration. It provides space to meet, work, host events and build stronger connections across teams.
Level 9 is now a fresh, contemporary and fully aligned workplace where both companies can grow with confidence.
